The Hamilton County Coroner’s Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Firearms Examiner to join our accredited forensic laboratory. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in the examination, analysis, and comparison of firearms-related evidence to support criminal investigations and court proceedings. This role requires strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of firearms mechanics, and the ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally.
Job responsibilities include the normal microscopic comparison of firearms evidence, toolmark comparisons, serial number restorations, function tests, court testimony, and training law enforcement personnel. The examiner will join a staff of four other firearms examiners. The examiner will be required to comply with safety, quality control, and other administrative criteria of the ISO 17025 accreditation program. Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in a natural science.
Examiners must be able to perform casework independently and be qualified to provide expert testimony in court. Membership in AFTE is desirable.
